This was Zolan's first work on childhood friendship. It shows two children on a beach at a drinking fountain too tall for them. The painting recalls the time when many things were too tall for us because we were small people living in a big-people's world. This put a special closeness between us. The children here have that closeness and everything they need to enjoy it. They can swim, run, play in the sand, talk of pirates and buried treasure or just sit side by side and listen to the sea. The girl is thirsty and the boy is helping her get a drink. They probably want to take good care of each other because they've found there is nothing more fun than another child. They're two of a kind—new to this world, excited about everything and full of imagination. They can turn a pile of sand into a magic castle in a couple of minutes. The art evokes smells of wet sand and sea water and the steady washing of small waves against the shore.
